An Island Love Story

As a wedding photographer, I often find myself in beautiful places but photographing Elena & Leonardo on Lily Beach in the Maldives was unforgettable.

I was on holiday with my family and had spent days gazing at the gorgeous scenery, longing to do a couples shoot. When I met Elena and Leonardo, I mentioned that I’m a photographer and they were just as excited as I was about taking some photos on the island. This called for an impromptu couple’s photoshoot on the beach. Hurrah!

Lily Beach is one of the most stunning places I have ever visited. The island feels like something from a dream, with soft white sand stretching in every direction and the most incredible turquoise sea. We met at sunset, hoping for orange skies but the weather had different ideas. A thunderstorm was brewing, so instead of a big orange sun, we had moody skies that matched both the sea and Elena’s dress perfectly.

I’m not sure Leonardo was expecting to get wet but it wouldn’t be a beach shoot without a dip in the sea. Although, the fun didn’t last long as we soon noticed some stingrays were swimming in the shallows which resulted in a hasty exit.

The island is full of surprises. You never quite know what the weather is going to do next or which creature is going to swim by and say hello.
I didn’t go on holiday expecting to do a couples’ shoot but it was definitely one of my favourite island surprises.
